Ripple (color pencil/digital)

Bathing in oily waters by the light of the silvery moon ...
In retrospect it occurs to me that this ‘piece’ looks like one of those über-corny black-velvet paintings. Yes!

Seasons greetings to all; best wishes for the coming New Year!

50: The Long and Winding Road (pen & ink on paper)

When you hit fifty you start feeling a little bit spent. Therefore a brief reminder:

Do not go gentle into that good night

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Transportation (watercolor and color inks on paper)

This is a page from a strip that I worked on back in the 70’s in collaboration with a writer who had recently published a story in Heavy Metal magazine. He had the story – Epera of the Solar Winds – I would illustrate it and Heavy Metal would publish it. ‘Heavy Metal magazine! Finally, I’m on my way to fame and fortune!’, I thought. Right. I got halfway through the drawings when the writer called me and said that the editor of Heavy Metal had called him. She informed him that they were no longer taking in new material as they already had enough for the next two years or so.
My life has gone downhill ever since …

In any case, here's Epera, an interstellar witch (Like I said, I didn’t write this stuff) being transported on the back of her trusty, um, flying penisaurus or whatever it is.

Acrobat (color pencil, ink, felt pen on paper)

I just noticed that the right foot of the fellow balancing on the ball is a little bit ’special’. In a sense he doesn’t really have a right foot, he has two lefties. Good at balancing - terrible dancer. I did that on purpose, of course, despite the fact that it was done subconsciously (unconsciously?) It’s very symbolic. Plus, he was born that way. I also realized that he's a juggler, not an acrobat. So sue me.

In any case, everything in this picture influences something else in the picture. The first person to guess all of the relationships between the different components will be the first person to guess all of the relationships between the different components. Good luck!

Paddle Your Own Canoe (color pencil on paper)

Love many, trust few and learn to paddle your own canoe.

-American Proverb probably derived from the song ‘Paddle Your Own Canoe’.

Tango (watercolor on paper)

Oh what a tango dance we weave
Beneath the stars, midsummer’s eve . . .
Others in this series: Crucifigere, Lovers, Time, Dance à Deux, Tribal Fury and Icarus. There are more sitting in the drawer . . .

Wasted (pen & ink on paper)

This is an illustration from a semi-autobiographical novel I wrote a couple of years ago - The Beauregarde Affair. It attempts to depict my state of being after a particularly vicious three-day-long party. I felt as if my plug had been pulled; I was devoid of life-juice. 'Tom for strøm', as they say in Norwegian.
Not to be recommended for the uninitiated.

Phenomenon (pen & ink on paper)

Prehistoric (pen & ink on paper)

Looking at the at date on this drawing, I figure I can call it prehistoric ...

Stargazing (color inks on paper)

At night, to put myself to sleep, I imagine that I am sailing through the Universe in my own private starship. Much more entertaining than counting sheep.

Atmosphere (color ink on paper)

Entering an atmosphere near you soon ...

Mischief (pencil and color ink on paper)

I think this young fellow looks both sour and suspicious.
Sourly suspicious or suspiciously sour; take your pick.

Idle Dinosaur Thoughts (color ink on paper)

Ocelot (color ink and pencil on paper)

I don’t usually do animal portraits. I don’t usually do portraits of any kind. But now and then it’s fun to just sit down and draw or paint something different.
I like cats of all varieties. Cats are both primitive and intelligent at the same time. Also I like the fact that they see right through you. You can’t fool a cat. And they owe no allegiances. They are the pirates of the animal world.
